Fruit Garnish, Chili Pepper Garnish - Hummingbird Chili Pepper Garnish
Hummingbird Chili Pepper Garnish

One particular summer we visited my husbands Godparents in the hills of British Columbia Canada.  They had a quaint little home among many trees.
Each day we were intrigued watched through their kitchen window numerous hummingbirds at just one feeder all day long.
I have never seen so many birds at one time, they all seemed to be very polite taking turns feeding.
When we got back home we put up a hummingbird feeder like theirs,
soon about 3 birds showed but they were very territorial,
chasing one another not letting other birds feed.  They reminded us of 'Star Wars'.

This prompted me to create a garnish of these beautiful little hummingbird creatures using fruits and vegetables.

Hummingbird Garnish

recipe and photograph by Peggy Bucholz -  www.finedinings.com

1 Serrano Chili Pepper
2 Celery leaves
2 strawberries with hulls

Purchase Serrano chili peppers with long stems slightly off center to resemble a hummingbird beak and body. Cut two small lengthwise slits on the top side of the Serrano chili pepper about 3/4-inch from the stem end then insert celery leaves for the wings.

Make a strawberry flower and set on a serving plate.  Take the remaining strawberry and cut the top straight across including some flesh of the strawberry, place hull side down next to the flower you just made; put the Serrano chili pepper on the cut strawberry top, stick the Serrano stem into the strawberry flower to resemble a hummingbird that is feeding.
