Easy make ahead tasty Asiago cheese puffs appetizer with onion, fresh Thyme leaves and cayenne pepper for a 'kick' on toasted bread slices. To make it more fancy cut slices into different shapes with a cookie cutter, apply the spread and bake puffs when guests arrive... Enjoy!

Recipe Type: appetizer, cheese, hors d'oeuvre, sandwich bread

Prep Time: 30 min
Cook Time: 10 min
Total Time: 40 min
Yield: 20 appetizers

Ingredients:

5 thin white sandwich bread slices
1 cup Asiago cheese, finely grated
2 tablespoons yellow or white onion, finely chopped
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
3/4 teaspoon fresh Thyme, finely chopped
pinch salt
dash of Cayenne pepper

Instruction:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Trim crusts from bread. Cut 4 round (or square) pieces from each slice. Bake on a sheet pan at 400 degrees 3 to 4 minutes or until lightly toasted.

In a small bowl combine Asiago cheese, onion, mayonnaise, thyme and cayenne pepper. Spread the Asiago cheese mixture on the toasted bread. Return to the oven, bake 5 to 8 minutes more or until puffed and golden. Serve hot or cold.

Wine recommendation: Pinot Gris; Chardonnay
